How to Judge the Quality of the Packaging Tapes?

Packaging tapes can be seen everywhere in life, and they are used for fresh packaging and express carton sealing! Regardless of their small volumes, they play a key role in product packaging. Choosing the packaging tapes with a reliable quality will ensure the packaging safety.

However, in practical applications, we often encounter problems such as "the tape bought does not stick after a long time", "the tape breaks during product transportation". How do we judge the quality of the packaging tapes?

1. See the colors of the packaging tapes

The colors of the packaging tapes are mainly determined by the film (usually BOPP film) and glue. BOPP film itself is transparent, and the glue (usually pressure-sensitive adhesive) is usually orange and beige. Good quality packaging tapes on the market generally choose high-quality BOPP film and high-transparency glue. The tape produced is usually light yellow or white, indicating that it contains less impurities. The low-quality tape uses a cheap film, which has low transparency, and the glue is prone to yellowing, which will cause the entire roll to look yellow.

2. Smell the packaging tapes

This is a very straightforward way of judging. Inferior tapes will smell sour, and they may be made of inferior glue.

3. Feel the tension and stickiness of the packaging tapes

Tension and stickiness are the most important factors for judging the quality of tapes. Generally, manual testing is enough. Pull the tapes with your hands to feel the tension; pull a roll of tape and stick it on the carton and then tear it off to see if the carton paper is torn together. If you tear them off together, it proves that the adhesiveness of the tape is OK. Be careful not to test the adhesiveness of the tape with the palm of your hand. You must test it on the carton.

4. See the thickness of the packaging tapes

Generally, the thickness of the tapes on the market ranges from 40u-60u (the thickness of the BOPP film), and of course, the price is also very different. The 60u tape is very thick, but with the same thickness, the length is shorter, and the 40u tape is long, but very thin and easy to break. Generally we recommend choosing 50u.

5. See the tightness of the wrapping of the packaging tapes

Good packaging tapes are tightly wound, high-quality, no bubbles, no impurities, and low gap; poor quality tapes, on the contrary, are loosely wound with many bubbles.

In addition to the above identification methods, we also have to beware of the problem of insufficient tape size. Because the length of tape is difficult to measure, many tape lengths on the market are false. Tapes with the same thickness will also have different lengths due to factors such as the thickness of the paper tube, size, and winding tightness, so you still need to actually operate it before you learn durability of the tape.
